2019 - 2020 Redistricting of Elementary Boundaries

Deer Creek monitors student enrollment numbers several times each year and for the last few years has been carefully studying the pattern of the elementary population along with the housing growth knowing that realignment of school boundaries would eventually be necessary.  It is common practice for districts to realign boundaries in an effort to balance school site populations and serve students in the most equitable and educationally sound manner.

At this time, there is a need to address our unbalanced elementary school population and prepare for our future student growth to assure we can meet all students’ educational needs by better equalizing enrollment. For instance, our enrollment at one elementary site is projected to have over 200 more students as compared another site. We have one elementary site that is overcrowded with high class sizes and no additional room for growth while another site has over 10 classrooms vacant and ideal class size numbers.  Research tells us class size and student-teacher ratios matter a great deal, therefore balancing elementary school numbers is extremely important with regard to educating our students.

The District’s Long Range Planning and Redistricting Committee, consisting of Deer Creek parents, teachers, support staff, and administrators have been meeting to determine the best options where the least amount of students are affected by a potential move to another school.

Maps of redistricting options showing which areas and students may be affected and FAQ’s will be available to the public on Tuesday, February 12, 2019.

Because we understand the impact that redistricting may have on students and are empathetic to what families go through when faced with redistricting, we want to offer forums for our parents to voice their thoughts to the District and Board of Education.   Anyone attending the Forum will have the opportunity to speak and/or complete an online form providing input to the Board of Education Members and the Redistricting Committee. Please note Parent Forum dates, times, and locations below:
