Out-of-District Transfers

Deer Creek makes decisions about student transfers in accordance with district policy and state law. You can download our comprehensive district policy below; however, we are providing the following information for your convenience:

  • The State Department of Education requires that the following form be completed to apply for a transfer: Transfer Application.
    • Parents who need access to technology to print or complete the form can visit the Deer Creek Enrollment Center. Paper copies of the form can also be picked up at the Deer Creek Enrollment Center located on the West entrance of  Deer Creek High School, .
  • We will contact parents directly about the approval status of their child’s transfer.
  • Mid-year transfer requests will be considered within [5] school days of the district receiving the application, when capacity allows transfer enrollments.
  • New transfers are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. The law also gives preference to children of active-duty military personnel.
  • To accept a transfer, enrollment in the grade the parent requests must be under the district-established capacity. The district’s capacity and vacancy numbers for each grade and school can be found below.
  • Transfers may be denied based on capacity, attendance and discipline issues.
  • Transfers for siblings must be considered separately.
  • Transfer students must abide by eligibility requirements established by the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association (OSSAA) for OSSAA-sanctioned activities.
  • When capacity allows and after a transfer application is approved, the guardian will then be required to complete our district's Online Registration.
  • Transfer decisions may be appealed. Refer to Board Policy JECB for the appeal process.

If you have any questions about the transfer process, please visit the State Department of Education Transfer Portal or email the Deer Creek Enrollment Office.

Intra-District Student Transfers

Under certain circumstances, Oklahoma law allows students that reside in a school district to transfer from their assigned site to any site within the district, also known as an intra-district transfer.

An intra-district transfer may be requested at any time in the school year, unless the grade level of the receiving school site has reached capacity. Those interested may click here to access the transfer application. Specifics regarding intra-district transfers can be found in Board Policy JECC.

Parents must provide transportation to and from school each day. Intra-district transfers may not be extended to siblings and no more than two transfers may be granted each school year. Parents/Guardians have the option to cease use of the transfer at any time, but must provide at least 48 hours notice to the receiving principal.

The district will approve or deny the application and notify the parent of the student of the determination in writing within thirty (30) days of receiving an application.

The methodology for determining grade level capacity at each school was based on class sizes stated in House Bill 1017, reduced by 10% to allow for in-district growth. Pre-Kindergarten through 6th grade was set at 18 students per class, 7th grade through 12th grade was set at 21 students per section of language arts offered at each grade level.
