October 11, 2024 Board Highlights

Superintendent's Report*

Dr. Jason Perez shared the following comments with the board:

  • A special naming ceremony took place Friday night before the kickoff of our football game to officially rename the stadium to Tyler Tidwell Stadium. Thank you to Tyler’s wife Cassi, and their three children, for participating in a special presentation of his jersey and serving as honorary captains for the game. Thank you to the Marine Color Guard from 8th & I for conducting the presentation of colors before the game. Thank you to the Marines from Recruiting Station Oklahoma City for honoring Tyler by running the game ball from the Tidwell home to the stadium.

  • Congratulations to our Deer Creek Middle School volleyball teams on perfect seasons! They went undefeated and our varsity team brought home the Conference Championship!

  • Congratulations to Deer Creek Band for their performances at the Mustang Invitation Contest. They walked away with the following awards: General Effect, Visual Effect and 1st in Prelims. We are so proud of all of our students who have worked tirelessly on this show, and of our band directors for their hard work and diligence in preparing our kids for this season’s competitions.

  • The OKC National Memorial & Museum kicked off their Journey of Hope at Deer Creek Middle School, the first stop as they visit all 77 counties in Oklahoma. This initiative was designed to inspire communities to embrace the Oklahoma Standard. During the program, students learned how Deer Creek showed support in 1995 by writing poems and letters to rescue workers. A Survivor Tree sapling was also planted, and we had many legislators and community officials in attendance. This was an incredible experience for our students. We were all especially proud of how our 7th grades behaved and conducted themselves during the assembly.

  • Congratulations to Deer Creek High School for being named to the 2024 AP School Honor Roll! DCHS is a bronze member of the Honor Roll for meeting the following criteria during the 2023-2024 school year:

    • 40% of our graduating class took an AP Test

    • 25% of our graduating class scored at least a three on one AP test

    • 2% of our graduating class took at least five AP tests.

  • Congratulations to 7th grader, Ryan Cory! Ryan auditioned for and was accepted into the 7th Grade North Central Honor Orchestra! Ryan made history by being the very first Deer Creek student to be chosen for NCHO.
