SMS Communication Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Deer Creek School District collects, uses, and protects personal information provided by parents, guardians, staff, job applicants, and other members of our school community when interacting with the district's websites, forms, and communication services.
1. Information We Collect
We may collect the following types of information:
- Contact information such as name, email address, and phone number
- Mobile phone numbers provided for SMS/text message communications
- Student enrollment and academic information as required by law
- Employment application information for job applicants
- Information submitted through district web forms or portals
2. SMS and Text Message Communications
Deer Creek School District uses SMS/text messaging to communicate important information to parents, guardians, staff, and community members. By providing your mobile phone number and consenting to receive text messages from the district during the enrollment and/or employment process, you agree to the following terms:
- Opt-In and Consent
- By providing your mobile number and expressly agreeing to receive SMS communications from Deer Creek School District during the enrollment and/or employment process, you consent to receive recurring informational text messages regarding school operations, attendance, safety, events, and other school-related communications. Consent is not a condition of enrollment or employment.
- Mobile Number Non-Sharing Statement
- Mobile phone numbers and SMS opt-in consent will never be shared with, sold to, rented to, or disclosed to third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes under any circumstances. SMS opt-in data and consent will not be sold or shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. This excludes service providers that facilitate message delivery on behalf of Deer Creek School District.
- Message Frequency
- Message frequency varies depending on the type of communication and district need. Emergency and safety messages may be sent at any time. Routine communications frequency varies based on district activity and individual conversations.
- Message and Data Rates
- Message and data rates may apply. The district does not charge for SMS communications. Standard carrier message and data rates may apply based on your wireless carrier's pricing plan. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
- How to Opt Out
- You may opt out of receiving text messages from the district at any time by texting STOP to the number from which you received the message. After opting out, you will receive a confirmation reply and will no longer receive SMS messages from that number. Text START to re-enroll. Even after opting out of text messages, the district may still contact you by email or phone for essential communications.
- Help
- For help with SMS communications, text HELP to the number from which you received the message, or contact the district directly at 405-348-6100 or email deercreek@dcsok.org.
3. How We Use Your Information
Information collected by the district is used to:
- Communicate with parents, guardians, and community members about school and district matters
- Send emergency alerts and safety notifications
- Process enrollment, employment, and service requests
- Fulfill legal and regulatory obligations, including FERPA and COPPA
- Maintain and improve district services and communications
4. How We Share Your Information
Deer Creek School District does not sell, rent, or share personal information with third parties for marketing or promotional purposes. We may share information only in the following limited circumstances:
- Service Providers: With third-party vendors who deliver communications on the district's behalf (such as ParentSquare and Onflo/K12 Insight for SMS delivery). These providers are contractually prohibited from using your information for any purpose other than delivering district communications.
- Legal Compliance: As required by applicable law, court order, or governmental authority.
- Safety: If we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to protect the safety of students, staff, or the public.
5. Student Privacy
The district handles all student information in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) where applicable. SMS communications are directed to parents, guardians,
and adult community members — not directly to students under the age of 13.
6. Data Retention
We retain mobile phone numbers and opt-in records for as long as you remain an active member of our school community or until you opt out of all district SMS communications. Upon request, we will delete your mobile contact information from our active records in accordance with applicable law.
7. Changes to This Policy
The district reserves the right to modify this policy at any time. Any updates will be posted on this page with a revised effective date. Your continued use of district communications services constitutes acceptance of any changes.
